WARPAINT & Unicorns Favourites of 2012!

This is my run down of favourites that I have posted a review of this pasty year.
I'm not going to stick to "categories" as I don't really covered all the areas in beauty.

Favourite Lip Products of the Year!
I personal wear more lipstick then any other product other then mascara. I'm a sucker for them!  Here are my top picks out 20 I reviewed this year.

Annabelle Twist Up Retractable Lipstick Crayons

Consisting of a range of creme, sheer, and frost finishes, they last decent amount of time on the lips and never feel drying or get flaky/patchy on the lips.

Wet N Wild Mega Last Lipsticks

Do you believe in love? A demi-matte finish lipstick that is also long wearing and never feels drying on the lips. Although lipstick in general will fade the fading time and pattern is consistent through the shades of this product line. You get the look of a matte lipstick with little issue with applying aka tugging on the lips.

L'Oreal Colour Caresse by Colour Riche

This last one was a toss up between L'Oreal Colour Caresse by Colour Riche and the CoverGirl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm. The Colour Caresse won out by one factor. This product is weightless! Both product pack a good amount of colour without looking like you have lipstick on.

The Colour Caress feel nice on the skin and dries down to only the colour left after 2 hours giving you a stained lips look that is natural.

Favourite Foundations of the Year!
Foundation is really why I got into makeup in the first place. Person be a pale as I am there was not option until the indie Mineral makeup movement int he early 2000'd. Add to this my dilemma of wanting full coverage foundation and you find yourself very limited on options.   In this case although 3 of the two still didn't match me (looking at you Tarte and Relvon) here are my top 3 foundation for coverage and longevity in a formula.

High End: Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation
This is the not natural look foundation I've come across both i n tone/shade as well as finish. It applies like a Liquid/cream formula but set like a mineral fountain in finish.

All I have to say to Tarte is to expand you shade range! I think a lot of bridal makeup artist would snatch this up because of the finish if you made them in pro sizes as well. I'm will to buy a white version of this no problem!

Low End: Revlon Color Stay Whipped Foundation & The All Natural Face Vegan Foundation

The Revlon Color Stay Whipped Foundation is something I'm planning to recommend for cosplayers on a budget. The reason is it lasts a long time on the skin through stage lighting, heat, and humidity just fine and can be found locally.

The All Natural Face Vegan Foundation is the brand I've been looking for for 3 years since Everyday Minerals formulated the Intensive (full coverage) foundation line. This foundation is not as full coverage as the Intensive formula, but it's a build able foundation, with a close to matte finish you can get in a mineral formula (aka not flash back with studio lighting). They also have a HUGE range that cater to every skin undertone imaginable.

Favourite Blush of the Year!
Sleek Blush By 3

With a mixer of finishes and true pigmentation one palette would cover all you blush needs. The colour range consist of 5 palette of vivid shade and on more muted one there is plenty to chose from base on skin tone.

Favourite Eyeshadow Brands of the Year!
My p
ick for consistency of finishes, pigmentation, and wear.

Kat Von D True Romance Eyeshadow Palettes

I own the SAINT and the ANGELES palette from the brand (Angeles was Limited edition so I'm not reviewing it now that it's gone.) and now that they stopped putting in their cream shadows into the palettes, I'm happily give the line top marks for it's consistency. weather it matte satin pearl or shimmer their finish are always buttery and pigmented. Saint has been my go to eyeshadows this year even over the Naked palettes from Urban Decay. I hope this will stay permanent to the line

Lime Crime Pressed Eyeshadows

So far the brand has only 2 finishes matte and shimmer/metallic. Both are equally pigmented and smooth to apply to the skin. Their metallic shade are not the high shine which is why they are more of a shimmer finish. Also each palette is $35 each with standard size pan eyeshadows make this brand make this a good deal for the quality of them.

Sugarpill Pressed Eyeshadows
Daring the industry that an independent label can do bold better, Sugarpill matte eye shadow pack a lot of punch. Size wise the rival Makeup For eye in terms of amount of product you get at $12 a pop or $35 for a palette of 4.

They also have a line of pure pigment with no binder or organic/wet components. These need a little TLC to work with but should last till the end of your life time with rich colour blends.

Favourite New Formula of the Year!
This is a shout out to Italy that developed it as all these products where made probably by the same manufacturer across all brands. Estee Lauder was the first the launch this formula back with Modern Mercury Gelee. MAC pick up the ball with a full line of Extra Dimension products. Other bran also got on the band waggon such as Sephora Chrome Eyeshadows, Lancome blush highlighter, Givenchy Poudre Bonne Mine Healthy Glow Powders.

The characteristic of this formula is that the product it Mica base with not Talc and higher concentration of silicon in it. The texture is both creamy and smooth for this reason put look more like a well blended powder product with a metallic finish or fine shimmer. The only Differing between the face product and the eyeshadow is that the face product are more creamier in natural.

Both products can be used wet and not ruin the pan. this also intensifier the finish/colour.

Most Surprising New Products of the Year!
Maybelline Color Tattoos

Launched early January, this it the first gel based cream eyeshadow to hit the US drugstore market. Consisting or mostly shimmer/metallic shades with one matte (so far), these work great as bases or full on colour eyeshadows that will last the day at the fraction of the price.

  1. What shade of foundation do you wear in the All Natural Face? I think you and I had the same shade in EDM, Olive Fair?
    Thanks!

    1. Olive Fair was the shade i use to use. Olive Warm actually is the closest match. Olive pale is super pale in comparison.
