WARPAINT & Unicorns Makeup Favourites of 2016!


This year was a tough one to narrow down as I tried to review more products this years to date and delayed due to "REASONS"! But here is my run down of my favourites that I have posted a review on during the 2016 year.

I'm not going to stick to "categories" again as I did not really covered all the areas in beauty and this year I'm also sticking to permanent products or products you can still get a hold of formula wise. (But I slipped in a LE one...)

Favourite Lip Products of the Year!
These are the lipstick lines I reviewed that were new or new to me this year that stood out. ;)

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick
Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in The Perfect Bite Set Fig, Pepper, Honeycomb, Nori,
with Gazpacho, Pickled Ginger, Cotton Candy & Souffle.
Bite Beauty was a brand I would buy for friends and family because I appreciated and believe in edible lipstick products but I wasn't personally happy with the lack of pigmentation or semi-sheer quality of their lipstick formula. Enter the beginning of the year with the Amuse Bouche Lipstick formula with the full coverage shades and I want more shades even with the highend price point.



Milani Color Statement Lipstick
Milani Color Statement Lipstick in 33 Rose Amour, 04 High Voltage, 06 Cherry Crave, 22 Chilled Brandy, 19 Raspberry Rush, 20 Uptown Mauve, 34 Violet Volt, & 21 Sangria.
Still one of the nicest formula in the drugstore market with a TON of shades and finishes. I do recommend all the shades other than the matte formula, there are n ice matte formula out there.

Maybelline New Formulas!
Maybelline Color Sensational The Loaded Bolds Lip Color in Mauve It, Gone Griege, Raging Raisin, Smoking Red, Midnight Merlot, Violet Vixen, & Midnight Blue.
Maybelline has a number of newer lipstick formulas that I'm loving from the LipStudio Color Jolt Intense Lip Paint, to the Color Sensational The Loaded Bolds Lip Color, the Maybelline Color Sensational The Buffs and Creamy Matte Lip Colors. These new formulas are upping the stakes in the drugstore game are all pigmented and comfortable to wear. This is a lot of new shades / formulas from Maybelline starting at the end of 2014 to choose from. ;)

Favourite Liquid Lipstick Products of the Year!
This year my obsession with Liquid Lipsticks continues.

Monster Makeup Cosmetics Matte Liquid Lipstick
Monster Makeup Cosmetics Matte Liquid Lipstick in Wipe Out, Cyclone, Titan, Tyranny, Wolfsbane, Muddled, Cherimoya, Cornucopia & Blackened Heart.
The Monster Makeup Cosmetics Matte Liquid Lipstick is a contender for best long wearing liquid lipstick formula in my books. It is an ultra-matte formula that is also ultra-thin on the lips make it more comfortable to wear. The brand also sports a lot of unique shades that most brands shy away from or only release as limited edition shades..... Now if they could only make a White and Yellow permanent one. ;) This gets my cosplayer check of approval when you need your lipstick to last that 10+ hour day and is easy to reapply.

LA Splash Studio Lipshine Lip Lustre, Lip Couture, & Smitten Lip Tint Mousse liquid lipsticks
LA Splash Lip Couture in OG Ghoulish, Ghoulish, Cryptic, Forbidden, Vampire, Hidden Desires, Malevolent, & Vindictive.
LA Splash is one of the OG liquid lipstick formulators on the market to first come out with long wear liquid lipstick. All of these formulas have on of the longest wear times as well that is almost makeup remover proof. The formula is thicker than most but I'm finding that newer shades are getting thinner. This also gets my cosplayer check of approval when you need your lipstick to last that 10+ hour day and is easy to reapply.
It was a toss up between this Hard Candy Velvet Mousse Matte Lip Color and the Ciate London Liquid Velvet Moisturizing Matte Liquid Lipstick for the last formula to make this list. Neither are what I call a long wearing formula but they wear longer on the lips than a traditional lipstick. The cream to matte texture is nice but this Hard candy one is much more comfortable to wear so  I recommend it for those that hard ultra matte formulas to try this one out. ;)

Favourite Face and Body Products of the Year!

MAQPro Petite Fard Creme Palette PP 12
MAQPro Petite Fard Creme Palette PP12 in 124, 131, 14, 91, CI (or C1), 153, CR, 170, 111, & 52.
MAQPro is one of the makeup industry trade secret cream to matte formula wax based products that is loaded with pigmentation so that you don't  have to pile on the product to get flawless coverage. But it works best in warmer setting than in the "Great White North" for half the year. ;) This configuration was great for a number of fair skin ailment from colour correcting to foundation. But there are plenty more shades in the range to work with.

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Chantilly & Custard 
This concealer is for when you want to mask those deeply discoloured blemishes on the skin but you can sheer this out for under the eyes and highlighting the face. Just remember to work fast! ;)

Pixi Correction Concentrate - Brightening Peach
Pixi Correction Concentrate - Brightening Peach
This has been the corrector I've been leaning heavily the past 3 years to canell out my blue underey cirles. The formula as a longer stay power on the skin but doesn't complete set like most gel based formula makeing it a bit more forgiving under the eye area.

This has been the foundation of choice the past two years on morning I  just want to get my foundatioon done quickly. It not a perfect formula for long wear time and hot stage lighting but fine to get you through the day.  ;)

This foundation I still a work in progress for me and my normal to dry skin in term of figuring out what the best products to work with it is. But it's at it best when used sparingly to correct general discoloration and even out your skin tone.

This is still a Holy Grail setting powder that truly is the last step to blurring skin texture. Again you're paying a higher price tag but it so worth it until I find another powder that can do the same thing.

Favourite Blush and Highlighters of the Year!
This was a year with MANY blush reviews so it was hard to still pick just a few.

Joe Fresh Highlighter & Blush Sticks
Joe Fresh Highlighter Stick in Pure Glow with Blush Stick in Radiant Rosette, Peach Dream, & Rose 
These cream sticks have really put a lot of brands to shame in terms of quality of the formula and workable pigmentation even with industry brands that are know for cream products. It a shame the Joe Fresh Makeup line is not on the Jeo Fresh online sales site for the brand because I feel that US makeup enthusiast are missing out on another drugstore level brand that really tries to make the best product at a reasonable price range.

Essence Silky Touch Blush in 20 Babydoll and 80 Autumn Peach
A cheap drugstore brand that has an excellent formula with buildable pigmentation. They lack deeper shades but the range should work for pale to medium-deep skin tones.

theBalm Instain in Toile
With a great shade range for every skin tone and a long lasting formula these matte blushes straddle the fineedge of not being too dry to apply while work nicely to build up colour on the face.

Favourite Complete Palettes of the Year!

MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Sculpting Face Palette
MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Sculpting Face Palette in 20 - Light
In a year where a number of brands were busting out Pro cream face kits out of the blue the MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Sculpting Face Palette was the most user friendly formula of the bunch. I still wish the contour was a touch cooler for me but it's still a natural shade on my pale skin and I could use all these products in the kit with both a matte and shimmer highlighter to a peach tone blush/colour corrector.

Although I know the trick of this tool and could make my own, I'm just still happy to have in at the ready to use less brushes in my eye makeup looks.

Favourite Eyeshadow and Liner Brands of the Year!

My picks for consistency of finishes, pigmentation, and wear.

Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eyeshadow

The BEST gel based eyeshadow formula in the drugstore. Not a single one of these Milani shades are a dude so if you're looking for single shadows shades on the cheap without looking online for them these will not disappoint. 


L'Oreal Colour Riche Mono Eye Shadow
L'Oreal Colour Riche Mono Eye Shadow in 201 Little Beige Dress, 207 Pain Au Chocolat, 211 Grand Bleu, 213 Teal Couture, 205 Petite Perle, 214 Meet Me in Paris, & 205 Noir Cest Noir
The best silicone based eyeshadow formula singles on the drugstore market. These L'Oreal matte shades replaced a lot of MAC shadows for me as well as an easy everyday shadows. I still prefer the Milani Shimmer formula other these but they're still really nice to work with that I bought them all. They are also more shatter resistant than the Milani formula which is good for travel.



Yaby Cosmetics World of Pearl Paint Palette
Yaby Cosmetics World of Pearl Paint Palette
The Yaby Cosmetics Pearl Paint formula is the GOODMOTHER of all these gel based shadows that have been coming out the past 4 years. And it still kickass from back in 2008 when I first tried out the formula in a few single pans I purchased. The palette is not cheap but any working makeup artist that loves working with pearl/metallic shadows would appreciate this refillable palette in their kit.

Wet N Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Collection palettes
Wet N Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Collection palettes 738 Comfort Zone, 736 Petal Pusher, & 737 Blue Had Me At Hello.
This is another formula that has been long overdue a review on this blog. Wet N Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Collection palettes are still some of the best eyeshadow palettes on the market period. Which is a shame the only the Older 8 pan and 6 ones has this great quality while the new 5 pan ones are not that good. :(

Kat Von D Shade & Light Eye Contour Palette
Kat Von D Shade & Light Eye Contour Palette and Brush
All I have to say is that the Kat Von D Shade & Light Eye Contour Palette is the only matte eyeshadow palette you will ever need again in your life..... period. I could replace every single matte natural eyeshadow I own with this palette alone and be content with only have it in my collection. The formula for each shadow was nailed perfectly. Lazarus also works perfectly as a face contour for my pale skin... I' like to see this shade as part of the Shade & Light Contour shade expansion as a contour colour. ;)

Favourite Brand of the Year!
Sugarpill
Sugarpill Pressed Eyeshadows all 22 shades
It was an awesome year to do a round up of Sugarpill products as this has been an OG indie brand I've been fallowing since they started. Amy the owner really takes time in formulating new shades and formula to get the most out of sometimes difficult colours to work with.

Kat Von D Metal Crush Eyeshadow formula
Kat Von D Metal Crush Eyeshadow in Thunderstruck, Thrasher, Electric Warrior, Iggy, & Paranoid
This formula came out last year in 2015 this is still my favourite new formula to play within the year. Each shadow is perfect are a hefty price but it takes the beat qualities of a traditional powder shade with the new gel-based formula that makes them a dream to work with. I look forward to more permanent shades in the future.

Most Surprising New Product of the Year!

Kat Von D MetalMatte Eyeshadow Palette
Kat Von D MetalMatte Eyeshadow Palette in Nebula, Watt, Ignite, Tinsel, Glitz, Twinkle, Volt, Synergy, & Flash.
Linen, Jet, Velour, Stone, Moss, Ribbon, Silk, Fringe, Feather, Oak, Suede, Bone, & Velvet.
I've been realativly defeated by most LE palettes this year in term of quality most have suffered a few real dude shades. But this massive palette was a real winner in terms of even for the matte to exceptional formula quality for new Metal shades. So it deserves my most surprising award.

I hope you found this line up interesting. It was kind of painful to refine this list this year with 231 reviews this year to go through again. ;)
