WARPAINT & Unicorns Makeup Favourites of 2018!

Here is the rundown of my favourites that I have posted a review on during the 2018 year with 76 reviews. Didn't do as many as last year but some of my posts were massive regarding shades that were reviewed.

I'm not going to stick to "categories" again as I did not really cover all the areas in beauty and this year I'm also sticking to permanent products or products you can still get a hold of formula wise. But this year a few Limited Edition ones really stood out of the pack so they where included.

Favourite Lip Products of the Year!
These are the lipstick lines I reviewed that were new or new to me this year that stood out. ;)

Bésame Cosmetics Classic Color Lipstick
Bésame Cosmetics Classic Color Lipstick in Love's First Kiss 1937, Red Velvet 1930 & Merlot 1963.
The Bésame Cosmetics Classic Color Lipstick is still a matte lovers winner in my book. Each shade does have different levels of matteness, but they are fully pigmented and creamy to apply. These are luxury lipstick without the extreme luxury price point. Still up there as my favourite long wear traditional lipstick and there should be a shade of red or pink for most skin tones but it a very Classic line of makeup.

Too Faced Peach Kiss Moisture Matte Long Wear Lipstick
Too Faced Peach Kiss Moisture Matte Long Wear Lipstick in Make Me Blush, Makeup Me Happy, Peach Beach, & Got Peach?
The Too Faced Peach Kiss Moisture Matte Long Wear Lipstick is a beautiful cream formula lipstick that is fully opaque. They do look matte, but they feel so soft on the lips. The new packaging still has the same formula as the old one, but you can't blame me for getting most of these on clearance for the price of drugstore lipstick. ;) Shade range was expanded so if you're interested, you should find a few shades that work for your skin tones. PS I will be reviewing 3 shades of red in 2019. lol

Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick
Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick in Spanked and mini Spanked & Griselda.
The Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick is a beautiful cream formula lipstick that is fully opaque. They lean more on matte longer wear formula side, but the slim bullet makes it easier to apply to the lips. The shades are unusual for this line and lean to more of medium to deep skin tone (which I think is cool). There was a shade expanding recently so I'm hoping to a pink I could wear because of it a beautiful formula with some interesting artistic shades in the mix that find of put Pro Makeup Artist brands to shame. ;)

Favourite Liquid Lipstick Products of the Year!
This year my obsession with Liquid Lipsticks continues.

Jouer Long Wear Lip Creme Liquid Lipstick
Jouer Long Wear Lip Creme Liquid Lipstick in Dulce de Leche, Naked, Melon, Tawny Rose, Lychee, Cerise Noir, Aubergine, Bare, Terra, Noisette, Rayanne & Truffle.
The Jouer Long Wear Lip Creme Liquid Lipstick formula where slightly Niche for most buyers due to its smaller online circulation. But the formula is thin but cushy on the lips, and both the metallic and matte shades perform beautifully. The shade in Melon have made it into my daily bin of pink lipstick I like to wear when not testing out new lipstick products. There matte are on the more tame side for shades, but the Metallics are day wear ready and bold at the same time. ;)

Jeffree Star The Mini Rainbow Velour Liquid Lipstick bundle Diva RedRum Flamethrower Queen Bee Equality Breakfast at Tiffany's Blue Velvet I'm Royalty.
The Jeffree Star Liquid Lipstick is still the most comfortable formula on the market for me but needs to touch up sooner than the other formulas on the market because it trades in longer wear for comfort. I mostly got his mini-sets simply because I don't need for size outside of a few shades, but some of the shades have been updated to the current formula and perform even better like Queen Bee. Kudos.

Sephora Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick
Sephora Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick in 69 Hippy Pink, 70 First Date, 85 Rose Wood, 115 Fancy Peach, 64 Metallic Cherry, & 58 Voluptuous Burgundy.
The Sephora Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick is still the most balanced formula on the market for wear time an comfort on the lips. Still on the drier side but I never felt uncomfortable to wear. Sephora really upped their game and added a HUGE shade expansion so there Should be a shade of red, pink, nude and wine for everyone and they added unique shades.

Favourite Blush and Highlighters of the Year!

Natasha Denona Super Glow Highlighter in #1 Fair
Natasha Denona Super Glow Highlighter in #1 Fair
The Natasha Denona Super Glow Highlighter are refined shimmer powders formula is stunning and comes in 3 blinding tones for different skin tones.  The shades are way darker in the pan and read quite natural when used lightly on the skin, but if you build it up, it turns blinding!!!

Jeffree Star Skin Frost and Supreme Frost
Jeffree Star Skin Frost in Sarcophagus and Supreme Frost in Snow Globe.
The Jeffree Star Skin Frost is a glowy formula! This one reads very well on camera and in video, and now that I have them they are going into my cosplay rotation makeup when I want to GLOW. The highlighter shades in Ice Cold and Sarcophagus formula is smoother compared to Princess Cut which is more of glitter blush on the skin. I feel like the smoother formulas are more flattering on the skin, but all the shades also make excellent eyeshadows as well.

The Jeffree Star Supreme Frost formula is a highlight topper for sure. This formula is chalked full of micro glitter you usually see in eyeshadow formulas now. It's not for the faint of heart, and the shade Snow Globe looks way pretty overtop any product you put under it. It's a blast in a blush formula, but I feel like most people would want this as an eyeshadow.

Milani Strobelight Instant Glow Powder
Milani Strobelight Instant Glow Powder in 01 Afterglow & 03 Sunglow
The Milani Strobelight Instant Glow Powder is another stunning highlighter formula coming from the drug store. I've only tried these two shade, but there are plenty more from the brand's website and in stores if you like in the USA.

BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter & Shimmering Skin Perfector Luminous Blush.
BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter Mini Macaron Set in Opal, Vanilla Quartz, Rose Quartz, & Prismatic Amethyst. With Shimmering Skin Perfector Luminous Blush in Snapdragon.
The BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter is still Queen of an intense natural glow to the skin. Their powders can be built up to high intensity but blended out to a natural glow with these fine powders. ;) The Luminous Blush formula was also stunning and allowed for the same build up in colour intensity if needed or sheered out to subtle glow on my pale skin.

Favourite Eyeshadow of the Year!
My picks for consistency of finishes, pigmentation, and wear.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance & Soft Glam Eye Shadow Palette

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance & Soft Glam Eye Shadow Palette
The Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance & Soft Glam Eye Shadow Palettes are a wonderful mix of buttery matte and high shimmer shades that blend inter each other without issue makes them most peoples staples. These palettes are beautifully put together for colourful daytime appropriate looks, BUT you don't need both are there is a fair bit of overlap regarding tones.

Coloured Raine Queen of Hearts and Cheers To The Beauty Palettes

Coloured Raine Queen of Hearts and Cheers To The Beauty Palettes
The Coloured Raine Queen of Hearts and Cheers To The Beauty Palettes are a palette of perfect eyeshadows shades for each of the formulas. These palettes are beautifully put together for daytime to nighttime looks with the Queen of Hearts palette and the Cheers To The Beauty palette it a great nighttime pop of colour and quality to work with their other shades from their line.

Violet Voss Eyeshadow Palettes
Violet Voss The Rainbow Eyeshadow Palette in Flamingo, Peach, Buttercup, Seaform, Figi, Royal, Indigo, Violet, Pearl, & Eclipse. Fun Sized Mini Eyeshadow Palette in Fruit Sorbet & Le Macaron.
The Violet Voss Eyeshadow formulas are awesome! They do not skimp on pigmentation and texture, the mattes are smooth, the shimmers are buttery, and the aura pigments are luminous. I was really impressed by these colourfull palettes, but I just haven't been able to commit to their more standard shade palettes, but I can easily recommend this brand for the eyeshadows are they are excellent quality at their price point.

SauceBox Cosmetics Mermaid Life, Étude & Art Nouveau Palettes
SauceBox Cosmetics Mermaid Life, Étude & Art Nouveau Palettes.
The SauceBox Cosmetics Mermaid Life, Étude & Art Nouveau Palettes offer up some beautiful formulas in the market with every shade thought out regarding how the pigments work in the formula and finishes of the eyeshadows. The brand history was trying to make the best quality eyeshadows regardless of the shades and pigments used. It's a small brand still trying to get a foothold in the market, but you won't regret a single purchase from this brand.

SUVA Beauty Block Party Palette
SUVA Beauty Block Party Palette.
The SUVA Beauty Block Party Palette is full of permanent matte and shimmer eyeshadows that do feel powdery in texture but performs beautifully on the eyes, the shimmers in the palette are super buttery and smooth in texture with high shine. Great palette for those crazing pops of colour to create complete looks with oh so many neutral palettes out there.

Jeffree Star Androgyny Palette and Jeffree Star Thirsty Palette
Jeffree Star Thirsty Palette
The Jeffree Star Androgyny Palette and Jeffree Star Thirsty Palettes are full of permanent matte and shimmer eyeshadows that are FULLY pigmented and pack a punch. These matte are also pressed pigments, so they fall into the need for a base to prevent any staining and improve longevity. But they still manage to make the shades blendable while still being slightly powdery dues to the pigments used. Some people might find them frustrating, but if you LOVE matte colour, these are awesome for the pigments used. The Jeffree Star Thirsty Palette also has a row of high shine & metallic glitter shades that are a relatively new formula on the market that makes this palette an interesting combo of shades and finishes to round out a collection of eyeshadows.

Essence Cosmetics 16 Pan Eyeshadow Palettes in 20 Spice Up Your Life and 30 Fairy Wings & Magical Things
Essence Cosmetics 16 Pan Eyeshadow Palettes in 20 Spice Up Your Life and 30 Fairy Wings & Magical Things
Eye & Face Palette in 04 Holo Wow!
Pure NUDE Highlighter in 20 Be My Spacelight.
Another great drugstore addition to the market. These are pigmented and slightly powdery but for the price point very workable for those on a budget and the arrangement of shades makes me excited to use them. The 20 Spice Up Your Life palette is the warm palette I've been LOOKING for from any brand for years so kudos to them.

Eyeshadow Palettes Runner-Ups
Urban Decay Born To Run Eyeshadow Palette
VISEART Libertine Eyeshadow Palette
Had this been a different year these Urban Decay Born To Run  & VISEART Libertine Eyeshadow Palettes would have made it. But these two palettes are perfectly workable and nice formulas, but there are SO MANY GOOD eyeshadows formula I work through this year they drop to the bottom of the list, but I still wanted to give them an honourable mention. They're still worth checking out but maybe save for something else as well.... ;)

Favourite Brand of the Year!
Pat McGrath Labs
Pat McGrath Labs Mothership V Eyeshadow Palette in Bronze Seduction
Pat McGrath Labs MTHRSHP Subversive Metalmorphosis & Sublime Bronze Temptation Eyeshadow Palettes.
The Pat McGrath Labs Mothership V Eyeshadow Palette in Bronze Seduction is just stunning, all the shade are perfectly formulated and with this being a permanent palette in her range it makes it accessible to purchase as her price point is Luxury Brand and it like your paying for every single shade separately with these 10 pan palettes. The brand backs up the price point with pure quality here in the formulas and saturation of the shade colours and finish.

The Pat McGrath Labs MTHRSHP Subversive Metalmorphosis & Sublime Bronze Temptation Eyeshadow Palettes are the brand's classic formula, and despite being a holiday release didn't skimp out at the quality at all. Out of all the 6 pan palettes, these were the first to capture my attention due to the shades and high shine metallic formula in the Metalmorphosis that no other brand has managed to press into an eyeshadow pan. They literally cannot be duped as to how blinding the shades are so I hope they come around again in a more permanent palette because I'm not touching another straight metallic eyeshadow again.

Overall if you see a palette that catches your eye, it's worth the investment! But don't fall down the rabbit hole with this one brand as it will burn a hole in your pockets real fast. ;)

Favourite New Formula of the Year!
MINERAL GLITTER!!!
Hard Candy Glitteratzi Liquid Sparkler Prism Flip Eyecolor in Aurora, Twinkle, Star, & Galactic
and Gliterazzi Press + Play Glitter Reveal Lipcolor in Dazzle, Charm, Allure, & Slay.
Mineral base Glitter is nothing new it popped onto the scene back in 2012, but it was expensive at the time as an ingredient. Now it can be mass produced so expect more eyeshadow and powder product with these guys in the future, but there are also in your glitter liquid formulas of lip toppers and eyeshadow. Also, their pigments were only in loose from before, but they have managed to pressed these powder into eyeshadow pan formulas that make them more accessible to the non-makeup artist and wear longer without glitter glue. And they now live in liquid formulas for the lips and eyes.

The ingredients you're looking for are Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Calcium Titanium Borosilicate, Aluminum Calcium Sodium Silicate, and Alumina. Below are links to all the products this year I've reviewed that has them in them. ;)

Most Surprising Brand of the Year!
Lime Crime 10th Birthday Pressed Pigment Palette.
I've used Lime Crime product in the past and even before I started this blog, so I'm quite aware of the brand's history. My surprise is how well formulated their new products they have been rolling out this year and trying to expand outside their comfort zone. Now that's not to say every shade is perfect, but you can tell they really worked on each colour to get the colour/shade right in the formulas they are using and how they work on the skin. Now, most brands should be doing this, but this rapid product line growth is very impressive for an Indie Brand even for an OG one in the market.

Final thoughts about 2018 in Makeup:
I hope you found this line up interesting. I was surprised by the lack of face products reviews this year AGAIN as I have been testing out several but are less exciting compared to eyeshadows and glitter. :P What I found interesting was how swamped I felt with the posts, yet did literally less than last year.

The Makeup Drama, however, is again always ridiculous but oddly enough the bad press has really been not that bad for advertising for them. It doesn't help that most of the drama surround young and immature people that don't think before they react tend to be brushed said by they equally young and impressional audience (we already have enough stupid acts on the internet to try and not encourage more people to join in the stupidity). This drama, for the most part, doesn't affect me and what I review because it tends to all be VERY High School drama... until it's not.

Because some of it does send a VERY dangerous message... I think all of us needs to think smarter about what and who we follow in 2019 even if makeup is an escape time in our life, Someone is still profiting on those dreams.

Although another thing that had taken my time this year that I had given up was a video game for my blog back in 21013, no joke I completely tapped out on videos games. I honestly enjoy games again this year in the indie fringe sort of way. Next year might actually be less makeup again because epic console games are calling me (Kingdom Hearts III). ;)
