theBalm and the Beautiful Face |
theBalm and the Beautiful Face Palette aka the Cast Your Shadow Face Palette came out last fall rhat retailed fro $44.50US online. There was 16 full size eyeshadows, two lip/cheek stains, and one lip gloss in this palette.
I got mine in January so I've had a number a months to use it. It's no longer on theBalm, but I suspect you can find it still find it at some T.J.Maxx's in the US. (to those in canada T.J.Maxx is equivalent to our Winners).
I did however find a number of dupes from the Shade Lady palettes by theBalm for the shades in this one.
Fairly large palette, Mirror cracked. |
Colours:
EYESHADOWS
The Oil Tycoon is just-barely warmed over bronzed brown with subtle red undertones.
The Estranged Mom is an olive green with a soft tarnished gold sheen. theBalms All About Alex is similar just a more frosty finish.
The Supermodel is light copper. Darker then Urban Decay's Half Baked and Kat Von D's Sunny. Similar to theBalm Mischievous Maraisa but this shade is lighter.
The Bad Boy is a deep, dark brown with subtle burgundy undertones and a satiny finish and gold shimmer. Iidentical to theBalm Caught in the Act Courtney.
The Southern Bell is a muted, medium blue with a silvery sheen.
The Mother-In-Law is a dark gray with a frosted finish. Similar to theBalm Easy Wheezie which is just a touch lighter.
The Guy Who Died But Didn’t Really Die is a softened gray-tinged brown–it’s not quite what I’d call a taupe, but it’s somewhere near it. Similar to theBalm Isane Jane which has a more frost finish.
The Mistress is a soft gray shot through with silver. It’s right there on the border
of gray and silver–there is enough metallic sheen to make it lean more
silver, but it’s not the full-on metal finish you’d expect from a true
silver.
The Step Brother is a softened forest green with golden shimmer. The finish is a soft frost. theBalm Makeout Mary is very similar just ever so slightly leans more yellow.
The Coma Patient is a pink lilac with a white, frosted shimmer. This is one of two shades
I had issues with–it’s a little sheer in places, and the texture isn’t
as smooth as the other shades. It just feels looser overall, like it
doesn’t stay bound together.
The Police Man is a brightened sky blue with a white shimmer-sheen.
The Brain Surgeon is a medium-dark purple with very subtle red undertones. It doesn’t lean too red or blue, which is nice.It is rather similar to theBalm All the Way Annie.
The Neighbor is a pale yellow gold with a soft, frosted finish. Similar to theBalm Jet-Set Jennifer which is just a touch darker.
The Stock Broker is a creamy white with a high frosted sheen. It has a smoother finish but is similar in colour to theBalm Tempting Tara.
The Basketcase is a softly warmed beige with a metallic-frost finish. Similar to theBalm Devilish Danielle which is just a touch warmer/peach.
The Older Woman is darker peach-beige with a frosted finish and shimmer. Similar to theBalm Luscious Lani which is just a touch smoother in finish.
Blush
The Drama Queen is a bright almost neon coral-red. It can be built up for more intensity. Also has a tendency to dry out on the surface in the pan.
The Perfect Man is a softened fuchsia-pink with a subtle blue base and silver sparkle.
The Evil Twin is an opaque nude with a glossy finish. Pulls more orange/peach
All are true to pan.
Wear: My lid are not eyeshadow friendly as time and time again at the most I get 6 hours of wear even with the best shadows on there own. These where 9 hours. Not bad.
The blush are good stain with The Drama Queen lasting a full 16 hours on the skin and about 8 on the lips. The Perfect Man being a bit more glossy last ed 8 hours on the skin and 6 hours one the lips.
Packaging: Paper and cardboard slim box. The mirror cracked in shipping as it was under padded, which is a problem I've heard other had with their Shady lady palettes.
Compare: The formula remind me of Inglot's shimmer, pearl and D.S shades. theBalm rarely makes mattes in their shadows because the excel in their shimmer formals.
